mackenziewinter

the golden road bends and twists
like a snake searching for food,

fenced in by white snow, dawn's light
reflects off the icy sheen of scales.

snow covered hills loom
taller and taller with every mile,

a skeleton reaches for the sky,
Straining to leave the white sea.

stubby, burnt out candles
celebrate the new day,

stark crucifixes march
to the carven hills

silhouetted by the rising sun
newborn and still mewling.

a deep river of snow heaves
and attempts to breach the golden dam.

once it floods, new snow falls
but the dam holds fast.
